The weaving of beautiful Persian Rugs without a doubt is one of the most dazzling expressions of Iranian artistic genius. This is an art which has developed gradually over the centuries in measure with an ancient civilization, leaving us rare examples of the visual and technical virtuosity of artists from Achaemenid to the present day. For three generations, the rug specialists at Besmeh have assembled a comprehensive collection of the most unique rugs from this ancient country. All of the rugs featured here are one of a kind pieces and most of them are officially classified as "antique", meaning they are at least 80 years old, or "semi antique", meaning that they are at least 40 years old. Because they are original one of a kind pieces, there are no CD ROMs or pictures to scan for this website. 	From the city of Mashad, the capital of Khorasan and one of the two holy cities of Iran, a beautiful and richly coloured Mashad, 20' x 20' in size and classified as semi-antique. This carpet is approximately 40 years old.
	Isfahan or (Esfahan) is the second largest city in Iran. It is said by most to be the most beautiful and pleasant city in Iran. As these splendid carpets are named for their region or city, this carpet is called Isfahan. A semi antique rug, approximately 40 years old this carpet measures 5' x 31/2' and is a combination of pure wool and silk.
